What is polytetrafluoroethylene? How much do you know about these characteristics?

What is the commonly heard 'plastic king'? In fact, it is polytetrafluoroethylene, often abbreviated as PTFE. Due to its outstanding characteristics and wide use, it is known as the "plastic king"

Polytetrafluoroethylene has many applications as a sealing material. Due to its high corrosion resistance, stable physical properties, and resistance to high and low temperatures, it has achieved excellent sealing performance and is widely used in the petroleum, chemical, pharmaceutical, power, and steel industries. The applicable media include almost all chemical components such as water, oil, acid solutions, alkaline solutions, etc. Introduction: Made from refined soft polytetrafluoroethylene. Durable and reliable sealing performance; Polytetrafluoroethylene itself has corrosion resistance and anti-aging properties, and after special processing, it has good creep resistance and cold flow resistance; Can be safely used for a long time within a wide temperature range; Soft and easy to cut, can be cut by mechanical or manual means, convenient for installation.

Polytetrafluoroethylene is actually a high molecular weight polymer obtained by polymerizing units of tetrafluoroethylene. Polytetrafluoroethylene is a semi transparent white waxy material with characteristics such as high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and high lubrication. It is also widely used in many fields due to its outstanding features. The typical characteristics of polytetrafluoroethylene are as follows:

1、 High temperature resistance
Firstly, polytetrafluoroethylene does not have a true melting point and only slowly decomposes at temperatures above 450 ℃. Its performance is very stable at room temperature and pressure, making it suitable for many high-temperature operations, especially in some factory processing and manufacturing operations. In addition, polytetrafluoroethylene can also withstand low temperatures, even if the temperature drops to minus 196 ℃, it can maintain good mechanical toughness and elongation.

2、 Corrosion resistance
Secondly, polytetrafluoroethylene has excellent corrosion resistance. Whether it is some strong acid, strong alkaline substances, or some organic solvents, polytetrafluoroethylene will not be affected by most chemical substances. Therefore, using polytetrafluoroethylene for production and processing operations can effectively deal with some chemicals and solvents.

3、 High lubrication
Polytetrafluoroethylene also has a high degree of lubrication. Due to its low surface tension, it is not easily adhered to other substances and belongs to the category of solid materials with low friction. Therefore, its excellent lubricity makes polytetrafluoroethylene a good lubricating medium for application.

4、 Non toxic
Finally, polytetrafluoroethylene is a colorless, odorless, and non-toxic substance, so its presence can be seen in fields such as medicine and aviation, and it can even be used as an additive for artificial organs.
